This good quality French pewter wine taster features a coat of arms to the centre, which consists of a fire-breathing salamander entwined around the letter F to the centre, all below a crown. This device was the emblem of Francois 1 of France who reigned from 1515 to 1547. The handle is made up of a pair of nicely detailed, intertwined snakes, with both the front and back of the handle carrying the same detail. The diameter of the bowl is 70 mm (2.75 inches) and it stands 22 mm (just under and inch) high. It is in very good condition and dates from around 1900.
